Our Story

T J's Hamburgers has been slinging burgers on W Southcross Blvd since 1973 — a genuine San Antonio institution with two Blue Plate awards on the wall to prove it. It's a small counter-service spot with covered patio seating, the kind of place where the cashier knows the regulars and the grill never really cools down between the lunch and dinner rush.

Everything is made to order: hand-formed patties seared on the flattop, hand-breaded onion rings fried up golden, and chili made from scratch that goes on everything from fries to Frito pie. Under new ownership the counter still runs the same way — fast, friendly, and food that comes out hot.

Regulars keep coming back for the Double Meat with Bacon, a mountain of chili cheese fries to share, and staff who treat every order like it matters. As one longtime customer put it, "the pics don't do it justice" — you really do have to taste it yourself.
